How to Reprogram Your Subconscious Beliefs

How to Reprogram Your Subconscious Beliefs

Are You In A State Of Resistance?

Take a moment to think about some of the things you desire in your life. Are you well on your way to obtaining them or do you find yourself stuck with your desires seemingly beyond your reach?  Have you ever considered that it could be your very own mind that is sabotaging your efforts?

Do you ever feel like taking things to the next level, yet find yourself behaving in ways that directly conflict with obtaining what you say you want?

For instance, you may say that you want a romantic relationship, yet when certain challenges arise you squirm and push away, justifying that you are better off without the “headache” or “heartache”. Or perhaps you dream of financial stability and a thriving, successful business, yet fear or indecision freezes you in action when it comes time to execute.  Maybe one of your desires is having a healthy body bursting with high energy and self-confidence, yet you still eat crappy food and never make the time to work out.  Maybe you want balance in your life, yet you cannot say “no” when you really want to and instead pile on more duties and responsibilities, leaving yourself little to no time for rest and renewal.

Your Conscious Desires Are Misaligned With Your Subconscious Beliefs

In all of these situations, the conscious and subconscious mind are out of harmony and in a  state of resistance. Your desires may be at odds with your deep-set internal belief systems programmed in your subconscious mind, which ultimately drive your behavior.
It does not matter how much you say that you want a great relationship, financial freedom, or vibrant health.  If your internal belief systems somehow associate those desires with negative emotions such as fear, vulnerability, rejection, heartbreak, waste of time, guilt, embarrassment, shame, loss of freedom, etc. then your behavior-driving subconscious mind will NOT support their manifestation.

Getting Your Subconscious “On-board” With Your Conscious Desires

So if upon some reflection you identify some limiting beliefs, how do you go about changing them to support rather than hinder your goals, dreams and desires?

Well, in going about “rewriting” the programs which control 95% of your behavior, you must teach the subconscious mind in the way that it learns and uses information. Below are 3 great techniques to help you rewire your thinking patterns effectively.

1. Hypnosis

Most of us have heard of hypnosis but few have actually tried it.  People often view it as a creation of the film industry but not something that would ever apply to them.  Yet in actuality, hypnosis is an effective technique used to help achieve a desired goal in any aspect of life!

It works by inducing theta brain wave frequency, which in turn bypasses the conscious mind and gives direct access to the subconscious. Through hypnosis, you can use visualization and imagination to alter your perception of an experience.  Because your perception is altered for the better, your subconscious mind will no longer view your conscious desire as a threat and will subsequently support the actualization of that desire.

Since our nervous system cannot decipher between a real experience and an imagined one, we can change habits by routinely rehearsing a new behavior in our imagination.  Many olympic athletes utilize this technique to program their minds for high performance and success.

2. Repetition

Repetition is another very powerful method to strengthen an idea, thought or belief, whether it is through listening, reading, visualizing or even repeating them to others. Positive, constructive statements we say to ourselves, referred to as affirmations, trigger a rewiring of our perceptions, and thus influencing our future behaviors.

According to Dr. Mona Lisa Schulz, MD, PhD, a practicing neuropsychiatrist and associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Vermont School of Medicine, “We can rewire the patterns in our brain with cognitive behavioral therapy or affirmations. Affirmations change the way our brains are wired and the brain lights up differently.”

However, affirmations devoid of any emotions are hardly helpful at all.  On the other hand, when the affirmations are charged with an emotion, the effect is much more profound and the results materialize far quicker. When combined with meditation or hypnosis, they are particularly powerful.

For example, when a repeated affirmation such as “I am learning to be more relaxed and assertive as I speak up, make direct requests, say no, and set limits”  is coupled with a visualization of a favorable and friendly response from friends, family and peers, the impact on your subconscious mind is even stronger than doing either of those techniques alone.

3. Energy Psychology

If you haven’t read about it yet, check out my other blog on EFT tapping and it’s powerful impact on rewriting subconscious beliefs by rewiring the brain’s neural pathways.  EFT tapping is a form of energy psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between bioenergy, consciousness, thought, intentionality, and spirituality. It branches from what is now being called “quantum medicine” and supports the premise that perception directly influences manifestation, including physical pain and disease.  EFT tapping activates the flow of energy through a number of energy pathways all while mentally tuning in to and verbalizing the chief issue (stress, anxiety, pain, fear, etc).  The entire process works by sending a calming signal to the amygdala of your brain that the “threat” has been cleared and that everything is ok.  Repetition of this process results in a rewiring of neural pathways which alters your automatic patterns of thinking and behavior.

Be Gentle And Patient With Yourself

Remember, aligning your conscious and subconscious minds should be a loving and gentle process.  Be patient with yourself and trust that there is wisdom to be gained from understanding and working with your internal resistance.

It is important to give yourself time alone for self-reflection and retrospection that will help you identify what internalized belief systems may be blocking you from getting what you want. What is your subconscious trying to protect you from?  Identify the fears you may have associated with obtaining what you want, understand them and gently let them go.  In exchange, saturate your mind with as many positive examples  you can find to affirm the belief that what you desire is not only possible but is expected and gratefully welcomed.  Encourage your mind to be in a natural state of receiving.

Knowing how to align your conscious desires with your deep-set internal paradigm is absolutely empowering. With this knowledge you may continue to program, reprogram, and periodically “debug” your subconscious mind as you journey through life. Do not disempower yourself and live by default or as a victim of “fate”.  Stay in charge and fully aware of your own power to live the life you love.
