Your Subconscious Beliefs Affect Your Physiology

The Conscious and Subconscious Mind

The dictionary definition of the subconscious mind states that it is psychic activity just below the level of awareness. And according to Bruce Lipton it is the storage room for the “programs” we have acquired growing up through our parents, teachers, peers, experiences and overall environment. It is the “autopilot” mode that controls our behavior while we are preoccupied with our creative, logical, and calculative conscious mind.  In fact, the subconscious mind controls the majority of our behavior, about 95% according to cellular biologist Bruce Lipton, PhD and author of Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter & Miracles.

For the thousands of people that have read self-help books and countless affirmations without any significant yield to their personal or professional lives, reaching into the subconscious may be the answer.

Why? Because when we are busy working, thinking and using our conscious mind, the subconscious mind takes over. If there are some deep set belief systems that are incongruent with what our conscious mind desires (such as loving relationships, financial stability, confidence, vibrant health, etc.) then these desires can be easily thwarted and sabotaged by the much more powerful subconscious mind. Therefore, unless you take care to rewrite these self limiting belief systems programmed in your subconscious, even the most persistent positive intentions will reach resistance and be hindered in its manifestation. This inevitably results in people becoming discouraged and feeling like victims of their “fate” when they do not receive what they so want and work hard for.

If some opportunity comes easily to you, practically falls into your lap, then chances are there is a belief system in your subconscious mind that is compatible with receiving that opportunity.  On the other hand, if you really have to put blood, sweat and tears into something, really work hard and make sacrifices and struggle only to fail to see the results you want, then there is a good chance a certain internal belief system makes you incompatible with the outcome that you are seeking.

Where Our Subconscious Beliefs Begin to Form

How are belief systems programmed into the subconscious?  You may be surprised to learn that many of them are acquired during your early childhood.  Until about the age of 6, a child’s brain waves are mainly in theta, which is a state of mind used to induce hypnosis.  During this time, kids constantly mix reality with fantasy.  Due this hypnotic state of mind, kids are very impressionable, and easily absorb the information coming from their family, their school teachers and peers, and the environment in which they live.

This is something parents of young children really need to consider: be careful not to convey to your young ones too much struggle, stress, anger, fear, scarcity, limitation and self doubt and instead work to imprint in their minds enthusiasm, dedication, passion, love, acceptance, and the belief that they are able to reach any goal they set their mind and heart on. Raise them to be limitless and self-sufficient, to explore and discover their true purpose and lead a life of joy.

Epigenetics : Perception of Environment Affects Internal Biology

In the new and expanding field of science known as epigenetics, scientists are discovering that environmental stimulus and our perception of that stimulus (whether it is actually real or not) influences what genes are expressed and when. Our perception of the experiences we go through profoundly influence the way our genes are expressed via what scientists label as epigenetic tags.  Some of these tags can even remain in place and be passed down from generation to generation, explaining some strange patterns of inheritance that’s had geneticists perplexed for decades.

What does this mean for us?

Now there are many areas of life that can be thwarted as a result of self-limiting subconscious beliefs, but in this blog we will focus specifically on health.

The simple desire to have good health can be sabotaged by internal programs built off fear, guilt, anger, regret and a lack of love and acceptance for oneself.  Perhaps consciously, we may not even realize these programs or belief systems are even there and blocking us from achieving our potential and receiving what we truly desire.  Some people, no matter how healthy they eat, how much they exercise and how right they seem to be living their life STILL become ill.  In such cases, many do not understand how such a result can come about but what they really need to look at is the state of their mind.  The mind controls the epigenetic expression of genes based on its perception of the outside world.  In other words, the mind can lead to the expression or the “turning on” of cancer genes just as effectively as it can silence and turn them off.

Anita Moorjani, author of Dying To Be Me understood the root of her terminal illness after having a near death experience.  Ridden with large tumors the size of lemons from the base of her skull all the way to her lower abdomen, she laid weak and debilitated on her hospital bed awaiting her last breath.  During this time Anita entered another dimension, where she experienced great clarity and a deep understanding of her life and purpose on Earth.  She came out of her coma with a profound recognition of her true powerful nature  as well as that of every other human being. The insight she received from this near death experience had completely altered her perception of life and led to her rapid and miraculous recovery. So much so that in 4 days, although still weak, not a trace of cancer was found in her body.  The doctors were astounded and puzzled, later concluding that they must have made a wrong diagnosis.  Most conventional thinkers have a hard time excepting and celebrating the limitless power of the human mind.

Deepak Chopra, MD also brings attention to the connection between health and consciousness; the body’s infinite capacity for change and renewal. He doesn’t dismiss a miracle as a mystical or superstitious event but recognizes that no matter how rare, it too like anything else occurs through a particular mechanism. Could it be through the epigenetic mechanism? This concept opens up the opportunity for miracles to happen for anyone, if they can understand and fully own the true power of their mind and its influence on their health.
