What Is Protandim?

How Protandim Works

Protandim works by activating what is known as the Nrf2 pathway.  This communicates with and instructs the cells to do what they are already naturally designed to do: upregulate our “survival genes”, and downregulate the genes that potentially lead to disease, thus supporting optimal body function.


What Is Oxidative Stress?

Oxidative stress affects every single one of us. In fact it affects all of life!  To begin with, even our own normal metabolic processes such as breaking down food and utilizing oxygen, create waste and oxidative stress! Pure oxygen itself is actually very toxic and damaging for it creates in its wake a great deal of free radicals; these are unstable molecules that bind to and damage healthy cells.

The Big Three Antioxidants

The big 3 endogenous antioxidants include glutathione, SOD (superoxide dismutase), and catalase; they are the body’s main antioxidant powerhouses and are far stronger than any antioxidants you may obtain from the outside via diet. This is because on average, only 1 of these can neutralize 1,000,000 free radicals and are then recycled to do it again! The exogenous or outside antioxidants we get through food only has about a 1:1 ratio.  Thus, one molecule of let’s say Vitamin C will neutralize one free radical, and cannot be recycled and reused. Therefore, eating healthy on a daily basis certainly supports our body’s antioxidant defense, however, it only makes a small dent compared with the body’s natural production of it’s own reusable powerful antioxidants.


What This Means For Us

So what does this mean for us?  Well, if we can increase our production and recycling of the powerfully protective, innate antioxidant system we were born with, we can make a far greater impact on our health and vigor!
